Infantry Field Uniform II Polish Republic wz.19

Uniform specifications:

• fabric: khaki colored uniform wool
• stand up collar secured with two small hook and loop fasteners
• cotton lining
• buttons with crowned eagle, trademark ESEF ALPACCA

Uniform wz.19 was the first completely Polish uniform developed by the Uniform Commission. 

The then French uniform served as a model for the design of Uniform wz.19. As the uniform was developed, a heated discussion took place concerning pockets on the tunic. In the end, the opinion of the General Inspector of Infantry prevailed; He was against breast pockets for the uniform of infantry rank and file. Chest pockets might be damaged when over filled. They could make the securing of  shoulder straps for field pouches more difficult. They would also be constantly in danger of being torn away from the tunic itself, and they would raise the cost of producing the uniform.

It was decided that the tunic would be cut to lightly fit at the waist, to be buttoned in the front with five buttons, and that it would have two slanted lower pockets.

The definition of the uniform color was interesting. Initially, in the “Description of the Polish Army Field Uniform” dated 1 October 1919, the color was described as “grey-brown-green”. Then in the period 1924-1927, the color was redefined simply as “khaki”. 

Tunic wz.19 was produced using various fabrics and in various colors. This problem was noted by the General Staff in 1929 when it wrote: “... the brownish concealment color is not the same across various units, and this phenomenon is due to the use of various fabrics and colors by the manufacturers of the uniform cloth...”

The enlisted tunic wz.19 was projected to be used by all branches of the Army.
